The idea

A Qing kingfisher-feather headdress, translated into a pin using a lab-created blue — the colour kept, the bird spared.

Not a reproduction

The original uses real kingfisher feathers (diancui), an art now avoided for ethical reasons. This pin keeps the blue-green inlay in lab-created material and silver; it references the technique without repeating it, and uses no real feathers.
